Have you noticed your hair is thinning or falling out?

  Age: As people age, their hair growth slows down and they may start to lose hair. This is a normal part of aging, but it can be more noticeable in some people than in others.

  Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disease, scalp infections, and alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease that attacks the hair follicles), can cause hair loss.
• 
  Medications: Some medications, such as chemotherapy drugs and blood thinners, can cause hair loss as a side effect.
• 
  Stress: Severe stress can cause a temporary type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. This type of hair loss usually resolves on its own within a few months.
• 
  Hairstyles and hair care practices: Certain hairstyles and hair care practices, such as tight hairstyles (cornrows, braids, etc.) and harsh chemical treatments (perms, relaxers, etc.), can contribute to hair loss.

Start treatment as soon as you notice thinning hair. You can stop and reverse hair loss as long as you do not wait too long. Over years the hair follicle loses attachment to the small muscles in the skin. When this happens, hair loss is permanent. The sooner you start treatment, the better chance you have of stopping and reversing the loss.
